Mississippi Market contributes to a high quality of life by providing access to products, people and information.

Ends Policies of our Board of Directors

At Mississippi Market our board uses the "Policy Governance Model" to help them govern effectively. One of the key components of this model is the co-op's "Ends Policies." These are statements that reflect the co-op's vision of how to meet our stakeholders' needs as we go about our business of selling natural foods and health products. In May of 2004 our board updated these statements by adopting the following "Ends Policies":

A. Products and Services

Member-owners and shoppers have a choice of products and information that promote personal, economic, and environmental health and sustainability.

B. Center of the Community

Mississippi Market is a welcoming commercial center and gathering space that embraces the diversity of our community and contributes to its vitality and sustainability.

C. Sustainability

Mississippi Market is a successful, socially responsible business dedicated to the health and well being of member-owners, shoppers, and Mississippi Market staff, and the sustainability of the producers and distributors of the products we sell.

D. Cooperative

Mississippi Market is a cooperative enterprise, democratically controlled by people who have a direct stake in the co-op. We reinvest economic resources in the community, provide connection to place, and contribute to the growth of the larger co-op community.
