This year, we’ll have three open seats on our board of directors. We invite member-owners to consider running for board. There are lots of opportunties to learn about the board’s role this summer.
Throughout the summer, we will be holding informal “meet and greet” events wherein anyone who is interested in running can come meet existing board members, get more information, and ask questions.
Board Meet & Greet Events
These events offer a way for member-owners to learn more about their Mississippi Market, meet their board of directors, and discover how to become more involved with their co-op.
June 16, 4:30-6pm at Selby
June 27, 11:30-1pm at East 7th
July 17, 11-12:30pm, East 7th
July 28, 5:30-7pm, West 7th
The role of the Board of Directors
As member-owners you are a critical part of that growth—not only through your financial support of the co-op, but also by participating in the decision making and governance of the co-op. Our board of directors is made up of member-owners just like you. We all come from different backgrounds—professionally and personally—and bring different perspectives to the board. As board members, we help represent the member-owners’ collective values and vision for the future of the co-op.
The board of directors is primarily responsible for:
- Hiring and evaluating the general manager
- Financial oversight
- Long-range strategic planning
- Recruitment of replacement directors
In addition to our monthly meetings, each board member serves on one of our committees—Executive, Governance or Finance. Additionally, we have biannual board retreats, the opportunity to attend and represent the co-op at industry events and we participate in continuing education.
This fall we will be conducting our annual election, which, of course, relies on strong candidates interested in running for the board.

Additionally, we always welcome member-owners to our monthly board meetings as another great way to experience what it is like to be on the board. If you are interested in more information about the process or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Apply to be a board candidate
Prior to applying to be a board candidate, we invite you to attend a Board Meet & Greet or a board meeting to talk to a current director for more insights into the role. For more information about our board and the election process, visit the board of directors page of the website. You can download the Board of Directors Candidate Application(pdf).
