Positive Change for July: Loaves & Fishes

We’re proud that our reusable bag donation program reflects our overall mission as a co-op. With Positive Change, your reusable bag credit is worth 10¢ each. Choose to keep it, or donate it to our monthly non-profit recipients.

Plus, in the spirit of making a greater impact on our community, you can round up to support these organizations every time you shop! This month, your donations will go to support the work of Loaves & Fishes.

loaves&fishes logoLoaves and Fishes is a nonprofit meal program in Minnesota, serving hot meals to those in need. In 2014, we served over 400,000 nutritious meals. We currently serve more than 1,900 daily free hot nutritious meals – with an emphasis on nutritious. We currently operate 23 sites throughout the year as well as 19 additional sites during the summer months that specifically feed children while they are home for the summer.

NOTE: this organization is NOT affiliated with any religious organizations, despite its name.

Funds given through Positive Change will be put towards the operations of these sites (including staff time, staff coordinators, and food purchases).  Most importantly, the funds allow the organization to provide these free meals to our guests in need.

Specific to St. Paul Loaves & Fishes currently operates five year-round dining sites and four summer feeding sites. Sites are chosen based on need in the community and the ability to serve the most individuals facing hunger.

  • Dorothy Day (Downtown)
  • Faith Lutheran Church (Frogtown)
  • St. Matthews Church (West St. Paul)
  • Faith Covenant Church (East St. Paul)
  • Salvation Army (East St. Paul)

Our summer dining sites include:

  • First Covenant Church (East St. Paul)
  • D.I.V.I.N.E Institute (East St. Paul)
  • Salvation Army (East St. Paul)
  • Penumbra Theatre (Cathedral Hill)

Last month, our Positive Change program raised $9,741 for Urban Roots. Thank you to all who rounded up and donated their bag credits to this fantastic St. Paul-based non-profit!
