The last two months have seen great progress towards the opening of our third store on the East Side. We are still on track to break ground this fall and open in the summer of 2015.
Upcoming Community Meetings
Interested in learning more about the project? There are two public meetings, to review our project before receiving final approvals from the City. We encourage our member owners and neighbors to attend. The Zoning Committee, an arm of the Planning Commission, must review the project plans because the building will be over 15,000 sf, and because we will need a variance on parking lot landscaping. They send their recommendation along to the Planning Commission. Although it is not a public hearing, people are also welcomed to attend that meeting on August 8th, 8:30 AM, City Hall. The East Seventh store is in the Dayton’s Bluff Historic District, and at the August 28th meeting the exterior plans will be up for final approval from the Heritage Preservation Commission. Both are great opportunities to show your support!

The interior layout has been revised, incorporating staff feedback, and we are close to a final version. We are also fine tuning the plans for our centralized kitchen.
We’ve had lots of opportunities to connect with our new neighbors on the East Side, and are eager to become a part of their community. On June 2, a team from Mississippi Market met with eight organizations working on the East Side to introduce ourselves, learn more about their work and identify opportunities for future partnerships. We have presented before the Dayton’s Bluff District Council, and their Land Use and Equity Committees. On June 20, we participated in the Night Out on East 7th, and had a great time meeting folks. You can see Hector and Liz standing on the site of our future store. And on July 17th our board held a “Meet and Greet” at Swede Hollow Café, across the street from the site.
