Join us from 6:30-8:00 p.m. on the evening of Wednesday, January 25 at our East 7th store for a free film screening. We’ll be showing a recently released PBS Visionaries documentary titled In the Spirit of Cooperation that explores the power of cooperatives across the U.S. and around the world.
This hour-long documentary follows the work of the National Cooperative Business Association CLUSA International and celebrates 100 years of cooperatives building a better world while utilizing the seven cooperative principles. The film features stories from seven cooperatives with members in Seattle, Western Massachusetts, Mississippi, and international projects in Mozambique and East Timor. Four types of cooperatives are discussed, including agriculture, worker-owned, credit unions, and consumer based, such as food co-ops. Stories highlight a credit union that helped revive a food desert, a coffee co-op that became its nation’s largest private healthcare provider, and a food co–op doing its part to combat income inequality by paying the highest entry-level wages in the country for its industry.
The screening will be followed by a brief discussion of the film. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. This is a free event, registration is required.
