Meet Dominique Tomlinson — East 7th Deli Manager

How long have you worked at the co-op?     

I’ve been working with Mississippi Market for about five years now. I started out as a packer in the deli at the West 7th store, then switched it up and went to doing hot bar. I was at the West 7th store for about one and a half years. I then transferred to the East 7th store to be the hot bar cook. About one year after the transfer, I was promoted to East 7th Deli Lead and was in this leadership role for one year before I was promoted to East 7th Deli Manager.

How are your personal values reflected in your work at the co-op?

I enjoy helping people, so I try to go above and beyond to help our customers receive what they are looking for. I believe in a clean, friendly environment, so I try to only present the best-looking deli that I can with a friendly smile to give a warm welcome to our customers.

What do you love most about working in the Deli? What is the most rewarding part?

I love the fact that I can make people happy with food. Everyone is different and it’s interesting to get to know people through food. I also love that there are so many different moving parts to the deli such as the hot bar, salad bar, juice bar, smoothie bar, and coffee bar. Customers get excited at the fact that we offer so much and that’s really the rewarding part – to see customers happy with something that you made for them.

What are your favorite Deli items? Do you have any recommendations?

My favorite salad is the garlic lover’s pasta. I recommend it to anyone that can have milk and wheat because it is just so good. Every time I get a customer to try it, they buy some. My favorite smoothie is the peanut butter banana smoothie with either whole milk or almond milk. It’s so delicious and has plenty of protein. I would also recommend trying the carrot cake! If you’d prefer it without the cream cheese frosting, try our sunrise muffins. Also, if you’re having a party and want to get a little something, I’d go for the roasted red pepper cream cheese spread or the caramelized onion dip. They go great with crackers, bread, chips and even veggies!

What do you do for fun outside of work?

I spend as much time as I can with my son. He is very active, so we spend most of our time playing outside. We also like to go for walks around the neighborhood and during the winter we have snowball fights.
