Create Positive Change

Each time you shop at the co-op, you have a chance to directly support local community partners by donating your 10-cent reusable bag credits and rounding up your purchases to the nearest dollar. It may only be a few cents or spare change, but your generosity makes a huge impact — to the tune of over $10,000 each month for our Positive Change recipients!

The Sanneh Foundation

April’s Positive Change recipient is The Sanneh Foundation, a Saint Paul-based nonprofit whose mission is to empower youth through in-school and after-school support; improve lives by providing youth programs; and unite communities by advancing diversity, equity and community well-being.

Since 2011, Sanneh has designed and delivered programs for 10,000 youth, ages 6 to 18, annually throughout the Twin Cities Metro, with a focus on serving youth of color in urban settings. Ultimately, Sanneh seeks to close the health equity gap through action on the social determinants of health by using a safe settings approach with the following entry points for change: 1) physical exercise and nutrition education; 2) social and emotional skills development; 3) workplace skills development; 4) income through employment.

Due to COVID-19, all of Sanneh’s traditional holistic youth development programming was postponed and staffing was redirected to help with emergency-relief efforts. Staff in Sanneh’s BIPOC Workforce Development Program pivoted to provide free food for over 100 families a day and distributed over 1,700,000 lbs. of fresh and nutritious foods since March 2020 to support the community.

April Positive Change donations will support youth programming at the Conway Community Center, ensure the availability and accessibility of food to those who need it most during this unprecedented time, and help procure needed supplies, such as personal protective equipment, to ensure the safety of staff and the community.
