Create Positive Change

Each time you shop at the co-op, you have a chance to directly support local community partners by donating your 10-cent reusable bag credits and rounding up your purchases to the nearest dollar. It may only be a few cents or spare change, but your generosity makes a huge impact — to the tune of over $10,000 each month for our Positive Change recipients!

Women’s Advocates

June’s Positive Change recipient is Women’s Advocates, the nation’s first shelter for women and children escaping domestic abuse. Founded in 1974, they continue to serve as a safe space for survivors of all backgrounds and cultures to escape domestic violence and begin the healing process toward a path of self-sufficiency. They offer shelter, meals, clothing, transportation, personal needs items, counseling, and other basic services. On average, Women’s Advocates provide shelter and services to 50 women and children, help dozens of crises line callers, and educate people about domestic abuse prevention and services daily. Support from local organizations and community members are a vital resource in the success of these programs and services. The Women’s Advocates shelter is located on Grand Avenue, a few blocks south of our Selby store. Their staff provide 24/7 basic needs, advocacy, counseling and resources for domestic abuse survivors.

All funds donated for Women’s Advocates during June will support their kitchen and food program to provide domestic abuse survivors with access to three nutritious meals each day.
