Create Positive Change

Each time you shop at the co-op, you have a chance to directly support local community partners by donating your 10-cent reusable bag credits and rounding up your purchases to the nearest dollar. It may only be a few cents or spare change, but your generosity makes a huge impact — to the tune of over $10,000 each month for our Positive Change recipients!

September’s Positive Change recipient is CLUES, Minnesota’s largest Latino-led nonprofit organization, founded in 1981 by and for Latinos. Located just three blocks from our East 7th store, CLUES serves over 12,000 people annually.

CLUES works to advance the capacity of Latino individuals and families to be healthy, prosperous, and engaged in their communities. CLUES is a multi-faceted, one-stop hub providing services on economic empowerment, educational enrichment, health and family well-being, and community engagement.

September Positive Change funds will support La Canasta Familiar (The Family Pantry), a pop-up food shelf that serves 250-300 households each Monday. La Canasta Familiar provides families with fresh produce, meat, dairy, and bread along with culturally specific foods.

CLUES has responded to the COVID-19 crisis to help the disproportionately impacted Latino community. They have seen a 111% increase in food needed at La Canasta Familiar and are opening up additional food distribution sites in the Twin Cities. At La Canasta Familiar, they now provide an option for drive-up food boxes along with a delivery option for seniors and other participants with transportation challenges.

Funds donated at the registers in September will increase the amount and variety of food available at La Canasta Familiar food shelf, focusing on fresh produce and culturally specific foods.
