Meet Marquet, Maggie’s Organics and Matr Boomie — three of our favorite fair-trade brands to consider for holiday shopping. Not only does gift-giving feel good, but when you buy fair trade gifts, you’re supporting good working conditions and fair wages for producers.
What is fair trade?
According to National Co+op Grocers (NCG),1 fair trade means producers were paid wages that allow them to support their families and contribute to the betterment of their communities. Fair trade encourages democratic decision-making, transparency, gender equity and independence, and fair trade farmers and artisans work one on one with importers (rather than with middlemen).
Marquet
Made by artisans in Thailand and Vietnam using traditional craft techniques, Marquet’s cotton, linen and silk scarves are soft and stylish. Marquet is committed to working with different cooperatives to create beautiful products while creating a living wage and work environment.
Maggie's Organics
Maggie’s has been making organic, fair-trade merino wool socks since 1992. Their Killington Hikers keep feet warm and toasty in the winter months and are great for hiking or just wearing around the house.
Matr Boomie
Matr Boomie’s earrings are handcrafted and sustainably made by artisans across India, who blend the traditional art forms of India with a timeless and modern design aesthetic.
