Tommie’s Pizza serves authentic New York-style pizza just down the street from our Selby store. Open since 2018, they are are a local family owned business with an emphasis on great ingredients. Tommie Daye first started cooking in 1989 at T. Wright in Minnetonka, Minnesota. He started as a dishwasher and worked his way up to cook. Within a year, Tommie was promoted to kitchen manager and was asked to launch a new pizza offering. “I immediately caught on and developed a passion for cooking that I still have today,” Tommie says. “I have spent most of my career cooking and managing restaurants in the Twin Cities area.”
Tommie decided to open Tommie’s Pizza after managing restaurants for many years. He and wife Dana found the location. They knew right away that it could grow into a great business. It already had a pizza oven and walk in cooler. They got busy building out the rest of the restaurant and opened in October of 2018.
When asked what makes Tommie’s Pizza unique, Tommie mentions being Black-owned and family-operated. Their ratings across many food apps and google are exceptional and people rave about the wings and pizza crust. “We put everything we can into every piece of pizza. We make our sauce, crust and sausages from scratch and only use fresh ingredients, many of which are organic.”
What should someone order if they’re going to Tommie’s for the first time? Tommie’s Special, which is sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, and onions. “This recipe goes back to my days learning to cook at T. Wrights, with some improvements. The Selby wings are another favorite of mine, and I recommend you try both of these items if you’re new to Tommie’s Pizza.”
