Create Positive Change
Each time you shop at the co-op, you have a chance to directly support local nonprofits by donating your 10-cent reusable bag credits and rounding up your purchases to the nearest dollar. It may only be a few cents or spare change, but your generosity makes a huge impact — to the tune of over $12,000 each month for our Positive Change recipients!
Meet Black Youth Healing Arts Center
The Black Youth Healing Arts Center (BYHAC) centers their work on creating a grounded, culturally rooted place for Black youth in St Paul to process historical and present-day trauma. Many young people carry unaddressed experiences that limit their sense of possibility. BYHAC focuses on restoring that sense of possibility through practices tied to cultural identity, ancestry, and arts-based healing.
Staff at BYHAC use movement, storytelling, art-making, meditation, and culturally informed practices to help youth find stability and expression. Their programs support Black youth first, while also extending space and care to other youth of color. This approach looks to strengthen resilience, rebuild confidence, and reconnect young people with community. Their purpose is to offer a safe environment where young people can work through what they have experienced and step into their full potential.
With the current situation in the Twin Cities, BYHAC has included programming to promote wellness and healing. Programming is focused on youth of color ages 13 – 26. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend.
- Healing Circle with Drake Powe, Feb. 11, 5 p.m.
- Affirmation Arts with Tahnea, Tuesdays at 5 p.m.
- Yoga with Hope, Tuesdays at 6 p.m.
Funds from the Positive Change program will help keep programming free for participants by supporting weekly programming costs, supporting Elders stipends, and assisting with general operating expenses. For more information: Black Youth Healing Arts Center | IGF (irgrace.org)
