Meet Jajaime Kiland – Selby Deli
How long have you worked at the co-op and what brought you here initially?
22 years — 23 this winter. I’ve always loved animals and nature, so the people who help me told me about the store opening and that it seemed like a good fit for me. So I applied, went through the orientation, and started working in the grocery department.
What do you love about your job?
I love the natural, organic, earthy feel of the store, and I love our wellness section. I worked in grocery and bulk before and recently started in the deli. I love it. It’s fun coming in each day not knowing what I’m going to work on.
How are your personal values reflected in your work?
I follow a New Age religion, so working here fits perfectly with those (nature-based) values.
What do you like to do during your free time?
Listen to a lot of music, watch a lot of movies, and do a lot of reading. Oh, and play on the computer. On Fridays, my mom and I pick up Bruegger’s and eat our bagels in the garden at the Selby store before going grocery shopping.
What are some of your favorite products found at the co-op?
I love the produce section, especially the mangos and bananas. My favorite products are in Wellness: Herb Pharm Anxiety Soother (a lavender tincture that helps me unwind at the end of the day), and Anima Mundi Protection Myst. There are so many products in Wellness that make you feel better, and I love that.
