In Person at East 7th: Black History Month Mixed Blood Theater Workshop
February 19th at 4:30pm - 6:00pm
Instructor: Mixed Blood Theater | $15/$10 Members
Location: East 7th
Uncover the narratives woven into our food and the historical threads that shape it in a unique Mixed Blood Theater workshop. Engage in an immersive experience that seamlessly blends food, acting, and history, inviting participants to share, play, act, and eat.
The workshop is intricately tied to Mixed Blood Theater’s March production, “The Most Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington,” penned by Pulitzer Prize Winner James Ijames. This biting satire dissects history’s influence on present-day systems, portraying Martha Washington’s fever dreams, plagued by illness and tended to by the very slaves who will gain freedom upon her death. The themes of family, legacy, and broken promises are hauntingly explored.
Instructor Ansa Akyea, an accomplished professional stage, voice, and screen actor, as well as an emerging director and teaching artist, will share recipes that bridge our exploration of the play with the significance of recipes as historical artifacts in America.
Join us for this enriching workshop and secure your tickets for the March production, “The Most Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington” at Mixed Blood Theater.
Equitable Access Tickets: If interested in the class but facing financial constraints, please contact msummers@msmarket.coop for an equitable access ticket code for free entry.
