This hands-on cooking class will feature elevated appetizers inspired by ancestral wisdom, reimagined for a modern gathering:
Collard Green Spring Rolls with Sweet Chili Sauce – a fresh take on a soul food staple
Shrimp & Catfish Grits Bites with Remoulade – crispy, creamy, and packed with Southern flavor
Plantain Chips with Black-Eyed Pea Salsa – a nod to African and Caribbean foodways
Sweet Potato Beignets with Maple Caramel Sauce – a sweet ending to a joyful gathering

Lachelle Cunningham is a renowned chef and culinary educator known for her commitment to community and promoting healthy, soulful eating. With a deep passion for food justice and sustainability, Lachelle has built a reputation for transforming traditional comfort foods into nourishing, plant-based dishes. She is the founder of Chelles’ Kitchen and operates the Healthy Roots Institute, where she educates on food sovereignty and healing through culinary arts. Lachelle’s work often focuses on empowering communities to reconnect with their cultural food heritage while embracing healthy, whole foods. Her innovative recipes and workshops inspire others to cook with intention and care.
