Create Positive Change

Each time you shop at the co-op, you have a chance to directly support local nonprofits by donating your 10-cent reusable bag credits and rounding up your purchases to the nearest dollar. It may only be a few cents or spare change, but your generosity makes a huge impact — to the tune of over $11,000 each month for our Positive Change recipients!

Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota

February’s Positive Change recipient is Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota (ILCM). They support low-income immigrants and refugees in navigating our complex immigration legal system by providing free legal representation, educating the community about immigration law and policy, and advocating for state and federal policies that respect the universal rights of immigrants.

ILCM will use Positive Change funds for three types of operating expenses:

  • Legal services. This may include direct legal representation, brief legal consultations or referrals. ILCM has 12 legal services programs, each aimed at serving specific communities of immigrants and refugees.
  • Education. ILCM is one of the state’s most trusted providers of immigration law-related education. They provide resources for immigrants, refugees and the advocates who support them.
  • Advocacy. ILCM collaborates with organizations and agencies across the state to promote fair immigration reform.

These legal services help protect people from deportation and assist them in obtaining legal status, which is critical for securing higher-wage jobs and the benefits and protections that come with them.
