Create Positive Change

Each time you shop at the co-op, you have a chance to directly support local community partners by donating your 10-cent reusable bag credits and rounding up your purchases to the nearest dollar. It may only be a few cents or spare change, but your generosity makes a huge impact — to the tune of over $11,000 each month for our Positive Change recipients!

RECLAIM

June’s Positive Change recipient is RECLAIM, whose mission is to increase access to mental health support so queer and trans youth may reclaim their lives from oppression in all its forms.

RECLAIM provides financially accessible mental health care for young people ages 13-25 who seek services focused on identity development related to sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. RECLAIM is one of the region’s only resources where queer and trans youth can get financially accessible, specialized mental health care. They provide therapy to 65+ youth each week, 80% of whom are trans or gender nonconforming.

In addition to providing care for youth, RECLAIM’s vision is to change the landscape of access to care for queer and trans youth through deep practitioner development, training, education and outreach, and community partnerships at the intersection of gender and racial justice.

Funds raised at co-op registers in June will be used to support therapists’ salaries to ensure that financial barriers don’t limit youths’ access to vital care. Nearly two-thirds of the queer and trans youth RECLAIM serves have financial barriers that prohibit them from accessing care in a traditional clinic.
