Nothing’s better than cold, juicy melon on a hot summer day.
Use your senses to pick out the best fruit:
- Look for a melon that is heavy for its size.
- Tap your watermelon — it will sound hollow when ripe!
- Note the color. Watermelons usually have a large, discolored spot on one side, where they rested on the ground as they grew. If the spot is yellow, it’s a riper melon than if it’s whitish.
- For melons like cantaloupe and honeydew, press where the vine was attached. It will give slightly and smell fresh and sweet when ripe.
Melons you’ll find at the co-op throughout the summer:
- Galia Melon
- Canary Melon
- Sugar Cube Melon
- Musk Melon
- Cantaloupe
- Honeydew
- Watermelon
- Sharlyn Melon
