Meet Shepherd’s Way Farms, a Minnesota sheep dairy farm that embodies their commitment to sustainability, community, and quality in every aspect of their operation.
Located about an hour south of Minneapolis, Shepherd’s Way Farms spans 43 acres of lush pastures dedicated to their 225 sheep, along with a handful of whey-eating pigs, chickens, and ducks. The farm’s dedication to environmental stewardship is evident in their use of agroforestry and native plants, which foster a diverse and healthy ecosystem. This approach not only enhances plant and animal life on the farm but also results in healthier soil and happier, well-nourished sheep.
Founded in 1995 by a family seeking a life rooted in farming, creativity, and togetherness, Shepherd’s Way Farms has grown into a beacon of sustainable agriculture. The farm’s journey began with the sale of fluid sheep milk through a co-operative. In 1998, they ventured into cheese-making with their first batch of Friesago. This was followed by Shepherd’s Hope and Big Woods Blue, marking the beginning of a 25-year tradition of crafting exceptional cheeses.
