Create Positive Change

Each time you shop at the co-op, you have a chance to directly support local community partners by donating your 10-cent reusable bag credits and rounding up your purchases to the nearest dollar. It may only be a few cents or spare change, but your generosity makes a huge impact — to the tune of over $11,000 each month for our Positive Change recipients!

Healing Justice Foundation

October’s Positive Change recipient is Healing Justice Foundation, whose mission is to reclaim the inherent dignity, brilliance, and humanity of all Black people.

The Healing Justice Foundation (HJF) provides individuals, families, organizations and communities with resources to provide urgent healing support to Black people. HJF seeks to be the Red Cross for the Black community in the aftermath of traumatic events, including police-involved shootings, COVID-19 and racial injustice. HJF is often working in times and places where there is a crisis.

The Healing Justice Foundation’s goals are to:

  • Honor families and communities
  • Provide urgent and sustainable healing support
  • Address the direct and collateral consequences of racism and its intersection with other forms of oppression
  • Provide education and training that empowers all

Donations collected at the registers will go directly to individuals and families facing financial hardship from the pandemic and needing healing support. The funds will also assist in building a program of prevention and urgent response grounded in the organizing metaphor of being the Red Cross for Black People.

Meet Dr. Joi Lewis

HJF founder and president Dr. Joi Lewis will be teaching The Joi of Cooking with the co-op and giving the keynote presentation at our 2022 Annual Meeting.
