Create Positive Change

Each time you shop at the co-op, you have a chance to directly support local community partners by donating your 10-cent reusable bag credits and rounding up your purchases to the nearest dollar. It may only be a few cents or spare change, but your generosity makes a huge impact — to the tune of over $10,000 each month for our Positive Change recipients!

The Sheridan Story

August’s Positive Change recipient is The Sheridan Story, dedicated to fighting child hunger through community and school partnerships. Through a network of community partners, they work hard to get food to kids who live in food insecurity, which means they do not always know when they will receive their next meal. The Sheridan Story strives to make a difference in children’s lives by focusing on food “gaps” – the times when the children are not in school to access the meal programs. The Sheridan Story serves over 10,000 children across 300 schools in the Twin Cities, including 24 schools in Saint Paul.

The Sheridan Story has seen the need for healthy meals for children increase by 400% during the time of COVID-19. Pre-COVID-19, they provided 25,000 meals a week; they are now providing over 100,000 meals a week.

August Positive Change donations will directly support the purchase of food for children served by The Sheridan Story. The Sheridan Story has been one of the main sources of supplemental grocery items for 37% of all children in Minnesota during this pandemic. Through their food gap programs, children receive 4-5 pound bags of wholesome food tailored to different dietary preferences, giving them access to a variety of fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains, and entrees

Funds donated at the registers in August will support the purchase of nutritious food for children facing food insecurity during these challenging times.
